Councilmember Carmalitha Gumbs officially to enter race for South Fulton mayor
Respected councilmember would bring new generation
of leadership, be city’s first woman mayor
SOUTH FULTON, GA – On Sunday, Carmalitha Gumbs will make history by announcing her bid to be the next mayor of South Fulton, Geogia’s seventh-largest city and second-largest in all of metro Atlanta.
Gumbs will formally announce her candidacy during a community campaign launch on Sunday, March 2, at 1 p.m. at Renaissance Church of Christ, 3675 Butner Rd., South Fulton, GA 30331.
Gumbs has been elected twice by the citizens to the council. She pledges to usher in a new era of leadership focused on transparency, fiscal responsibility, and smart growth. After being elected, she will also make history, like Shirley Franklin did in Atlanta, by becoming the city’s first woman mayor and bring a steadfast commitment to moving South Fulton forward.
Since its founding in 2017, South Fulton has faced ethical challenges in the mayor’s office, eroding public trust. Gumbs is determined to right the ship by being laser-focused on protecting taxpayers' money, eliminating fraud and waste, and ensuring the city government operates with the highest standards of integrity.
“Our city deserves leadership that prioritizes accountability and transparency,” said Gumbs. “I am running for mayor because South Fulton’s best days are ahead of us, and with the right leadership, we can create a government that always puts the people first.
“I will work tirelessly to protect taxpayer dollars, maintain the good image of our city, and keep our residents safe while fostering smart, responsible growth that preserves the serenity of our neighborhoods,” Gumbs said.
A dedicated public servant and advocate for South Fulton residents, Gumbs has consistently championed economic growth, public safety, and quality of life improvements. She believes the city must continue its positive momentum while making government more open and accessible to the people it serves.
The proud mother of a future medical school daughter, Gumbs is a marketing professional who has spent years in the health and wellness industry.
